In the 14th minute the ball was on its way in behind Grêmio Prudente's goalkeeper José Vítor Ramos, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. José Vítor Ramos showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Wilian Alves in the 15th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Arlindo Luz in the 18th minute of play forced Grêmio FBPA's goalkeeper Rui Varela to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Rui Varela didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Zé Peres went, in the 19th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-0 was the resulting score. Rui Varela made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Arlindo Luz in the 23rd minute of play. In the 26th minute, Enrique Pires hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 31 minutes into the match, Grêmio FBPA's goal looked a bit too open when Celsinho Neiva came free, but Rui Varela reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Grêmio FBPA's Rui Varela played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Zé Peres in the 34th minute of play. In the 38th minute, Arlindo Luz ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Rui Varela was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Zé Peres in the 43rd minute of play forced Grêmio FBPA's goalkeeper Rui Varela to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 48th minute, Zé Peres reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Rui Varela. The goal made the score 4-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Celso Mendes to make the kick off. Rui Varela showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Zé Peres in the 54th minute of the match.
