The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Michel Zonta scored 0-1 in the 3rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Hernani Botelho, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 7th minute, Thomás de Sousa got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 9th minute Michel Zonta shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hernani Botelho saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. ҜΔΜƗҜΔŽ€Ş ĆƗΜŽ's Fabien Barthez played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Amauri Sampaio in the 11th minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Guto Bastos got free with Fabien Barthez in the 13th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Fabien Barthez made a fantastic save in the 14th minute, when Edvaldo Leal sent off a good shot on target. Gilvan Tande hit a great freekick 15 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Michel Zonta in the 19th minute of play forced Capivara FC's goalkeeper Hernani Botelho to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Edvaldo Leal during the 25th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Fabien Barthez showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Amauri Sampaio, who was totally free with the ball in the 27th minute. Fabien Barthez didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Guto Bastos went, in the 28th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. The audience was convinced that Michel Zonta's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Hernani Botelho was relentless in the 32nd minute of the game. After some fancy dribbling in the 37th minute, Edvaldo Leal managed to get in a good position for a shot. Capivara FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Edvaldo Leal was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Fabien Barthez breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Thomás de Sousa received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 41st minute. Hernani Botelho tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Capivara FC's Fabiano Negri suffered a concussion after 43 minutes and had to leave the field. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Ulisses Saraiva during the 43rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Capivara FC's Rômulo Viana was substituted for Fabiano Negri. The supporters of Capivara FC booed when ҜΔΜƗҜΔŽ€Ş ĆƗΜŽ was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 45 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ulisses Saraiva didn't get a good kick on the ball. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Amauri Sampaio to make the kick off. 52 minutes into the match, Michel Zonta had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Hernani Botelho. Capivara FC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Michel Zonta was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-2. ҜΔΜƗҜΔŽ€Ş ĆƗΜŽ's Fabien Barthez played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Rômulo Viana in the 65th minute of play. Guto Bastos struck a weak shot in the 70th minute. Fabien Barthez didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Capivara FC. Fabien Barthez showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rômulo Viana in the 75th minute of the match. 76 minutes into the match, ҜΔΜƗҜΔŽ€Ş ĆƗΜŽ's goal looked a bit too open when Guto Bastos came free, but Fabien Barthez reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 80th minute Edvaldo Leal shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fabien Barthez saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Narciso de Barros kicked well hit freekick during the 82nd minute of the match. Carlos Alberto Germano, 83 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. 86 minutes into the match, ҜΔΜƗҜΔŽ€Ş ĆƗΜŽ's Michael Ballack sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Hernani Botelho narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After a defensive mix-up in ҜΔΜƗҜΔŽ€Ş ĆƗΜŽ's zone, Edvaldo Leal stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Fabien Barthez came out of the goal and Edvaldo Leal tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 93 minutes into the match, ҜΔΜƗҜΔŽ€Ş ĆƗΜŽ's goal looked a bit too open when Guto Bastos came free, but Fabien Barthez reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After having played for 96 minutes, Michel Zonta managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. ҜΔΜƗҜΔŽ€Ş ĆƗΜŽ's supporters crossed their fingers, but Michel Zonta was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.
