Vista Alegre FC's Pedrão Sarmento played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Fábio de Souza in the 3rd minute of play. 12 minutes in the game, Paulo Renato Dracena fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Jacinto Chaves having to interfere. Pedrão Sarmento showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Fábio de Souza in the 15th minute of the match. After 16 minutes, Fábio de Souza made it 0-1 with a short kick to the right side. Vista Alegre FC's Pedrão Sarmento tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Vista Alegre FC's Paulo Renato Dracena got a good chance for a goal in the 19th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Dráuzio de Alcântara fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jacinto Chaves having to interfere. Jonathan Trigo kicked well hit freekick during the 26th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Perivaldo Furlan in the 27th minute of play forced Vista Alegre FC's goalkeeper Pedrão Sarmento to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 29 played minutes Vista Alegre FC got a freekick which was hit by Flávio Montenegro. If Benê Sabóia had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Pedrão Sarmento showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from José Carlos Simões, who was totally free with the ball in the 32nd minute. After 36 played minutes Palmeiras got a freekick which was hit by Fábio de Souza. Flávio Montenegro was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 39 minutes into the match. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 39th minute of the game. One of Vista Alegre FC:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Palmeiras:s goal. Pedrão Sarmento showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Toninho Goiano, who was totally free with the ball in the 45th minute. José Carlos Simões took the ball and in the 47 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Pedrão Sarmento. Pedrão Sarmento dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-2.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Dráuzio de Alcântara was the one to do the kick off. Cristian Mello hit a great freekick 54 minutes into the match. If Dráuzio de Alcântara had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 60th minute Dráuzio de Alcântara shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jacinto Chaves saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 68th match minute, Palmeiras was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Fábio de Souza to maneuver through the defense. Dagoberto Moura hit a great freekick 69 minutes into the match. Paulo Renato Dracena sent away a hard shot on goal in the 80th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Vista Alegre FC made a substitution. Décio Neto replaced Jonathan Trigo. A collision led to Palmeiras getting a freekick after 82 minutes play. Perivaldo Furlan hit a great ball. Dráuzio de Alcântara struck a weak shot in the 85th minute. Jacinto Chaves didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Vista Alegre FC. 88 minutes into the match, Vista Alegre FC's goalkeeper Pedrão Sarmento had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Fábio de Souza. The audience thought a goal was coming when Fábio de Souza got free with Pedrão Sarmento in the 90th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 91st match minute, Palmeiras was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Perivaldo Furlan to maneuver through the defense. After a rather tough play, Palmeiras's Rodriguinho Carneiro got a free kick in the 92nd minute. 93 minutes into the match, Palmeiras's goal looked a bit too open when Décio Neto came free, but Jacinto Chaves reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of Vista Alegre FC booed when Palmeiras was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 97 match minutes in a wonderful position. Dagoberto Moura didn't get a good kick on the ball. Palmeiras's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
