After 37 minutes, Mauro Risel mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Monitor Huáscar and the Escuadrón Mercenario players grew even worse after the yellow card. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.
The audience thought a goal was coming when Ricardo Rivadeneyra-Gamonal got free with Josué Castro in the 52nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. A hard shot by Vasco Celerain from long distance, 61 minutes into the match, got Josué Castro's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. After 64 played minutes, Monitor Huáscar's Ovidio Varez shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Josué Castro came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Monitor Huáscar reached it. Escuadrón Mercenario's Josué Castro played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cordero Casuso in the 68th minute of play. After 70 played minutes Monitor Huáscar got a freekick which was hit by Vasco Celerain. Monitor Huáscar made a substitution. Humberto Sagasti replaced Ovidio Varez. In the 71st minute, Vasco Celerain hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The supporters of Escuadrón Mercenario booed when Monitor Huáscar was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 78 match minutes in a wonderful position. Escuadrón Mercenario's supporters rose to their feet, but Iztal Aballe was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Johans Ortubia breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. An unexpectedly hard shot by Epifanio Abaurre in the 90th minute of play forced Monitor Huáscar's goalkeeper Johans Ortubia to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Amado Abar charged in rather forcefully in the 91st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Amado Abar the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Johans Ortubia came out of the goal in the 98th minute to try and stop a shot by Escuadrón Mercenario's Joey Abaunza. But to his dismay, Joey Abaunza quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-1. Escuadrón Mercenario's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
