Bart Villanueva made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. After a defensive mix-up in Magallanes's zone, Rudolf Pendleton stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Isidro Camara came out of the goal and Rudolf Pendleton tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 24 minutes into the match, Magallanes's goal looked a bit too open when Tanner Booker came free, but Isidro Camara reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 32nd minute, Tanner Booker got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 37th minute Magallanes were awarded a corner. Lino Bombal went to the cornerflag to take it. Rudolph Thurman's late challenge caught a Magallanes's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Rudolph Thurman helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Magallanes booed when El Canalla de Chicago was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 38 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rudolph Thurman didn't get a good kick on the ball. Antonio Mackenzie took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 39th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Bart Villanueva. El Canalla de Chicago's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Rudolf Pendleton got free with Isidro Camara in the 42nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. If Rudolf Pendleton had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The wind increased when Luis Aravena made the kick off in the second half. In the 51st minute, Hector Spivey hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. With an all-out effort, Magallanes's Bart Villanueva threw himself towards the right post 52 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Luis Aravena, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Bart Villanueva showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Luis Aravena, who was totally free with the ball in the 52nd minute. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Magallanes reached it. Isidro Camara took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rudolf Pendleton, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.
