The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After some careless play in the Magallanes defense, Gus Arrelucea kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Tomás Las Casas. The Magallanes fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Tomás Las Casas should have stopped the shot. 28 minutes into the match, Magallanes's goal looked a bit too open when Tavo Arrelucea came free, but Tomás Las Casas reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gus Arrelucea in the 33rd minute of play forced Magallanes's goalkeeper Tomás Las Casas to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
