After some fancy dribbling in the 3rd minute, Jay Gale managed to get in a good position for a shot. Carlisle United's supporters rose to their feet, but Jay Gale was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Knut Grevad breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 6 minutes into the match, Jay Gale had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Knut Grevad. Hoberg United's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Jay Gale was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. The audience was convinced that Jay Gale's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Knut Grevad was relentless in the 12th minute of the game. Jonatan Lagrolet could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 16th minute of the match, but Brad Hudson made a huge save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Thomas Power in the 18th minute of play forced Hoberg United's goalkeeper Knut Grevad to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Thomas Power hit a great freekick 20 minutes into the match. Knut Grevad took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Thomas Power, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The supporters of Hoberg United booed when Carlisle United was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 30 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jan Thomas didn't get a good kick on the ball. Carlisle United's Hugh Tyson got a good chance for a goal in the 34th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After a rather tough play, Hoberg United's Calle Vidø got a free kick in the 35th minute. Knut Grevad showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Thomas Power, who was totally free with the ball in the 38th minute. A collision led to Hoberg United getting a freekick after 39 minutes play. Reinhardt Bramstrup hit a great ball. Brad Hudson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jonatan Lagrolet in the 44th minute of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Gav Williams during the 45th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, Carlisle United's Gav Williams got a free kick in the 45th minute. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

After 55 minutes, Jochum Kurdahl mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Hoberg United and the Carlisle United players grew even worse after the yellow card. Jochum Kurdahl hit a great freekick 55 minutes into the match. Thomas Power took the ball and in the 81 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Knut Grevad. Knut Grevad dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. Knut Grevad took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jay Gale, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 88 minutes had been played when some careless play by Hoberg United's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Gav Williams was slow to take the kick. During this time Carlisle United's players had a chance to rest. Carlisle United's Gav Williams was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Knut Grevad in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Thomas Power could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 92nd minute of the match, but Knut Grevad made a huge save. The Carlisle United players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
