A collision led to ΠΑΟΚ FC getting a freekick after 15 minutes play. Thomas Papagiotopoulos hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Thibaut Mazieres in the 20th minute of play forced ΠΑΟΚ FC's goalkeeper Makis Tselementes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Makis Tselementes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Pierre-Emmanuel Voisin in the 22nd minute of play. 23 minutes into the game, Vassilis Banasidis was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. ΠΑΟΚ FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave La Pointe Courte the free kick. Petros Giannakis sent away a hard shot on goal in the 25th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 33 minutes of play, La Pointe Courte's Jean-Michel Blandin made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. La Pointe Courte's Sabri Fouquet played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Petros Giannakis in the 41st minute of play. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

After having played for 50 minutes, Takis Saltamaras managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. ΠΑΟΚ FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Takis Saltamaras was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Sabri Fouquet took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Petros Giannakis, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The supporters of ΠΑΟΚ FC booed when La Pointe Courte was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 61 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jean-Michel Blandin didn't get a good kick on the ball. La Pointe Courte made a substitution. Pierre-Antoine Charbonnel replaced Wilfried Mahé.
