Remo da Costa took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gláuber Cardozo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. A collision led to S S Palestra Italia getting a freekick after 38 minutes play. Dagoberto Rossi hit a great ball. REAL VASCO RIO's Angelo Tande got a good chance for a goal in the 39th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After some careless play in the S S Palestra Italia defense, Josué da Cunha kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Remo da Costa. The S S Palestra Italia fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Remo da Costa should have stopped the shot. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 3-0.
