The referee ignored SE Palestra Itália's protests and gave José Carlos Silva a yellow card for diving instead. In the 2nd match minute, SE Palestra Itália was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by José Carlos Silva to maneuver through the defense. With a little luck, SE Palestra Itália's Iuri Pernambucano got control of the ball when Adhemar Freire tried to sneak it across the goal line. 12 minutes into the game, one of SE Palestra Itália:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Iuri Pernambucano had in the 14thth minute some difficulties stopping Serginho Nóbrega's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. Ademir Cruz didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Kaká Leal went, in the 15th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. SE Palestra Itália's Iuri Pernambucano proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 20th minute of the match, managed to save SE Palestra Itália from getting a goal against them. Iuri Pernambucano made a fantastic save in the 22nd minute, when Adhemar Freire sent off a good shot on target. Iuri Pernambucano made an important save on a dangerous shot by Adhemar Freire in the 24th minute. The supporters of SE Palestra Itália booed when Vila Nova FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 31 match minutes in a wonderful position. Henrique do Vale didn't get a good kick on the ball. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. Rony Gomes recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 39th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 42nd minute Rony Gomes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Iuri Pernambucano saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Iuri Pernambucano made an important save on a dangerous shot by Rony Gomes in the 46th minute. The audience was convinced that José Carlos Silva's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Ademir Cruz was relentless in the 47th minute of the game.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Cido Gerber stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Iuri Pernambucano showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rony Gomes in the 51st minute of the match. After a rather tough play, Vila Nova FC's Luís Fabiano Dantas got a free kick in the 53rd minute. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Adhemar Freire couldn't finish the play. Iuri Pernambucano made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Adhemar Freire in the 77th minute of play. Iuri Pernambucano took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rony Gomes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.
