Emiliano Abreu didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Luis Elija went, in the 35th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-2 was the resulting score. Teodoro Criston was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 40 minutes into the match. In the 39th minute, one of Consejo del Mate:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Consejo del Mate. In the 41st minute there was a penalty for Arquímedes. Luis Elija stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Emiliano Abreu. 1-3. Arquímedes's Luis Elija got a good chance for a goal in the 45th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The Consejo del Mate players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Arquímedes were winning 1-3.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Luis Elija to make the kick off. The audience was convinced that Luis Elija's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Emiliano Abreu was relentless in the 54th minute of the game.
