Teodor Froiz's late challenge caught a Criciúma Esporte Clube's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. In the 11th match minute, Diablos Rojos was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Etxahun Curiel to maneuver through the defense. In the 16th minute, Ciro Torrascasana made a precise shot to the right of Celestino Villamañan. Diablos Rojos's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-0. The audience thought a goal was coming when Berdaitz Osorio got free with Celestino Villamañan in the 20th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Rami Arecha during the 20th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of Diablos Rojos booed when Criciúma Esporte Clube was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 20 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rami Arecha didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Etxahun Curiel fell near the penalty area in the 27th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Diablos Rojos's protests and gave Etxahun Curiel a yellow card for diving instead. Etxahun Curiel hit a great freekick 27 minutes into the match. Diablos Rojos's Celestino Villamañan proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 31st minute of the match, managed to save Diablos Rojos from getting a goal against them. In the 33rd match minute, Criciúma Esporte Clube was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rami Arecha to maneuver through the defense. Waldir Ochagavia made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Lionel-Andrés Messias in the 34th minute of play. If Garcia Ompanera had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Diablos Rojos's Celestino Villamañan played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Garcia Ompanera in the 41st minute of play. Celestino Villamañan took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ciro Torrascasana, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.

Berdaitz Osorio received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 53rd minute. Celestino Villamañan tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. A collision led to Diablos Rojos getting a freekick after 59 minutes play. Etxahun Curiel hit a great ball. Celestino Villamañan took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ciro Torrascasana, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Garcia Ompanera sent away a hard shot on goal in the 66th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a rather tough play, Criciúma Esporte Clube's Rami Arecha got a free kick in the 67th minute. In the 69th match minute, Criciúma Esporte Clube was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Vicente Arruga to maneuver through the defense. The audience thought a goal was coming when Lionel-Andrés Messias got free with Waldir Ochagavia in the 70th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 72nd minute, Ciro Torrascasana hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Celestino Villamañan showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ciro Torrascasana in the 88th minute of the match. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Criciúma Esporte Clube fans cheered their team off the field, for while Diablos Rojos had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
