In the 4th minute, Ballet Azul's René Puente ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Gheorghe Baldovin. Gheorghe Baldovin yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-0. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Avram Elenescu in the 10th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg José Luis Chilavert saved Ballet Azul from getting behind. In the 17thth minute of the game Eladio Ulloa who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but FC Buzău's Gheorghe Baldovin was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. When Esequiel Dohrmann came up free with the goalie in the 20th minute, the Ballet Azul fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Esequiel Dohrmann couldn't finish the play. Ballet Azul's José Luis Chilavert played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Leonard Aanuţei in the 27th minute of play. Gheorghe Baldovin made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from René Puente in the 31st minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Eulalio Callejas got free with Gheorghe Baldovin in the 33rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Gheorghe Baldovin stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of René Puente's shot from short distance in the 33rd minute. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when René Puente stepped up to make the kick off in the second half.
