Lyons's players were relieved. 13 minutes into the match, Lyons's Ruperto Salvadore sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Aguinaga Nebot narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After some fancy dribbling in the 18th minute, Cesar Remigio managed to get in a good position for a shot. Lyons's supporters rose to their feet, but Cesar Remigio was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Aguinaga Nebot breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Aguinaga Nebot took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Paulo Illan, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 23 minutes had been played when some careless play by Esmeraldas S.C.'s defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. A nice corner shot did that Ruperto Salvadore got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Aguinaga Nebot quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Luisito Quinten showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Martinez Cines in the 34th minute of the match. Martinez Cines struck a weak shot in the 36th minute. Luisito Quinten didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Esmeraldas S.C.. Mario Chago kicked well hit freekick during the 37th minute of the match. After recieving a nice pass, Esmeraldas S.C.'s Niki Borda tried to score from far away in the 43rd minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. İbrahim Volkan was the one to do the kick off. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Cesar Remigio in the 51st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Aguinaga Nebot prevented the ball from getting in the gole. İbrahim Volkan sent away a hard shot on goal in the 55th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 62nd minute Cesar Remigio shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Aguinaga Nebot saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Severo Basualdo was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 65 minutes into the match. One of Lyons:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Esmeraldas S.C.:s goal. Lyons:s Luisito Quinten showed great skill when he stopped Niki Borda:s penalty. Esmeraldas S.C.'s Martinez Cines got a good chance for a goal in the 67th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Damian Maftei helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Lyons booed when Esmeraldas S.C. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 88 match minutes in a wonderful position. Damian Maftei didn't get a good kick on the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Boleslaw Zielinski got free with Aguinaga Nebot in the 89th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Boleslaw Zielinski struck a weak shot in the 91st minute. Aguinaga Nebot didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Lyons. The Lyons supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Lyons would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
