Mo Salah received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Narciso Frechoso came out and tried to block the shot, but Mo Salah slotted it home off the left post making it 1-0 in the 10th minute. 13 minutes into the match, Velez sarsfield's goalkeeper Narciso Frechoso had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Mo Salah. With a little luck, Velez sarsfield's Narciso Frechoso got control of the ball when Mo Salah tried to sneak it across the goal line. Narciso Frechoso made an important save on a dangerous shot by Mo Salah in the 19th minute. In the 22nd match minute, Manly FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mo Salah to maneuver through the defense. When the match clock showed 29 minutes, the score became 2-0 when Mo Salah sped through Velez sarsfield's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Narciso Frechoso. The audience thought a goal was coming when Mo Salah got free with Narciso Frechoso in the 35th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. When the match had gone on for 35 minutes, Mo Salah took a quick shot and it went in 3-0 without a chance for Narciso Frechoso to make any attempt to save it. If Mo Salah had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 44th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. 47 minutes into the game, Fabio Regis was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Velez sarsfield's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Manly FC the free kick. Fabio Regis kicked well hit freekick during the 47th minute of the match. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

In the 57th match minute, Velez sarsfield was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Valentin Lico to maneuver through the defense. After a defensive mix-up in Velez sarsfield's zone, Neville Byrnes stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Narciso Frechoso came out of the goal and Neville Byrnes tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Irving Bonnison hit a great freekick 62 minutes into the match. In the 66th minute, Mo Salah ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Narciso Frechoso was frozen by the shot and now it was 4-0. Manly FC made a substitution. John Aldridge replaced Mo Salah. Narciso Frechoso made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from John Aldridge in the 72nd minute of play. Manly FC were awarded a corner in the 74th minute after Velez sarsfield's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Neville Byrnes took the corner. In the 76th minute Neville Byrnes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Narciso Frechoso saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Yordan Avuski blasted a shot towards the goal in the 77th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Ray Clemence having to make a save. After 79 played minutes Velez sarsfield got a freekick which was hit by Raphael Leo. In the 86th minute, John Aldridge left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Manly FC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 5-0. If John Aldridge had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 91st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Velez sarsfield's Narciso Frechoso played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by John Aldridge in the 94th minute of play. There was no doubt that Manly FC were the better team. Manly FC's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
