When John Aldridge came up free with the goalie in the 10th minute, the Manly FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that John Aldridge couldn't finish the play. With a little luck, Velez sarsfield's Narciso Frechoso got control of the ball when John Aldridge tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 15th minute Manly FC were awarded a corner. Neville Byrnes went to the cornerflag to take it. Ray Clemence made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Qin Kun Xi in the 18th minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Neville Byrnes got free with Narciso Frechoso in the 20th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. An unexpectedly hard shot by Mo Salah in the 20th minute of play forced Velez sarsfield's goalkeeper Narciso Frechoso to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 23 minutes into the match, Manly FC's Mo Salah sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Narciso Frechoso narrowly saved just below the crossbar. The audience thought a goal was coming when Neville Byrnes got free with Narciso Frechoso in the 24th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Narciso Frechoso made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from John Aldridge in the 26th minute of play. After 28 minutes of play, Velez sarsfield's Qin Kun Xi made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Ray Clemence was left in no man's land by his defense there! After some careless play in the Manly FC defense, Qin Kun Xi kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Ray Clemence. The Manly FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Ray Clemence should have stopped the shot. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Qin Kun Xi in the 38th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ray Clemence saved Manly FC from getting behind. 42 minutes into the game, John Aldridge cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-2. Narciso Frechoso was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Ray Clemence showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Qin Kun Xi, who was totally free with the ball in the 47th minute.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Qin Kun Xi made a kick off. Manly FC's Ray Clemence played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Qin Kun Xi in the 53rd minute of play. 53 minutes into the match, Manly FC's goal looked a bit too open when Qin Kun Xi came free, but Ray Clemence reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 54th minute of the match Velez sarsfield got a corner. Manly FC's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Fabio Regis ran over to the corner to take the kick. A nice corner shot did that Fabio Regis got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Ray Clemence quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. After 58 played minutes Velez sarsfield got a freekick which was hit by Fabio Regis. Narciso Frechoso showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mo Salah, who was totally free with the ball in the 59th minute. In the 65th match minute, Velez sarsfield was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cirilo Dimas to maneuver through the defense. Narciso Frechoso showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Neville Byrnes in the 68th minute of the match. Ray Clemence stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Qin Kun Xi's shot from short distance in the 71st minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Fabio Regis got free with Ray Clemence in the 77th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Velez sarsfield's Narciso Frechoso played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Neville Byrnes in the 81st minute of play. Qin Kun Xi might have been able to make a better finish in the 82nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Ray Clemence. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out.
