Habakkuk Velázquez's late challenge caught a Wellington Phoenix's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Habakkuk Velázquez helped the player get up and apologised. Habakkuk Velázquez kicked well hit freekick during the 6th minute of the match. The audience thought a goal was coming when 詹俊 á Bø got free with Nemesio Baladi in the 23rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Wellington Phoenix's Vykan Víkingsson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Saturnino Honrio in the 27th minute of play. The U21 Argentina fans' excitement grew in the 39th match minute when U21 Argentina's Bartolo Clementi looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Vykan Víkingsson came out of the goal in the 44th minute to try and stop a shot by U21 Argentina's Bartolo Clementi. But to his dismay, Bartolo Clementi quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-2. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Nemesio Baladi made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from 詹俊 á Bø in the 59th minute of play. Vykan Víkingsson made an important save on a dangerous shot by Severiano Urbez in the 62nd minute. Vykan Víkingsson took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Hugo Casomiro, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 77 minutes Wellington Phoenix's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Martin Suy who took care of the corner kick. Nemesio Baladi made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from 詹俊 á Bø in the 79th minute of play. In the 81st minute Saturnino Honrio shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Vykan Víkingsson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 83rd minute, Gabriel Magalhães hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Vykan Víkingsson made a fantastic save in the 84th minute, when Martin Suy sent off a good shot on target. After 85 played minutes U21 Argentina got a freekick which was hit by Hugo Casomiro. 94 minutes into the match, Wellington Phoenix's goal looked a bit too open when Saturnino Honrio came free, but Vykan Víkingsson reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 96th minute of the match, Saturnino Honrio tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Vykan Víkingsson saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. The supporters of U21 Argentina booed when Wellington Phoenix was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 97 match minutes in a wonderful position. Remo Carvalho didn't get a good kick on the ball.
