An unexpectedly hard shot by Gaizka Mendieta in the 5th minute of play forced Independiente's goalkeeper Pepe Santoro to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 7th minute Thilo Heß shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pepe Santoro saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 11 minutes into the match, Thilo Heß dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Pepe Santoro, 1-0. Tiger's Josef Witlatschil played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Isidoro Beltran in the 14th minute of play. After having played for 17 minutes, Sören Bengtsson managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Independiente's supporters crossed their fingers, but Sören Bengtsson was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Pepe Santoro made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Iwo Sawicki in the 19th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Thilo Heß in the 20th minute of play forced Independiente's goalkeeper Pepe Santoro to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 21st minute the ball was on its way in behind Tiger's goalkeeper Josef Witlatschil, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 23 minutes into the match, Tiger's goal looked a bit too open when Sören Bengtsson came free, but Josef Witlatschil reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Isidoro Beltran made a kick off. A collision led to Tiger getting a freekick after 51 minutes play. Walter Baß hit a great ball. Josef Witlatschil showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Sören Bengtsson, who was totally free with the ball in the 59th minute. Pepe Santoro showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Thilo Heß in the 61st minute of the match. Pepe Santoro took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Iwo Sawicki, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 69th minute Christo Bothenhain shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pepe Santoro saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Tiger's Lukas Wurm was substituted for Fatih Schwemer. The crowd rose to their feet as Ximenes Castilla kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Josef Witlatschil. That made the score 2-1 in the 81 minute of play. Tiger's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Isidoro Beltran was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-2. Pepe Santoro showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Michail Bakunin, who was totally free with the ball in the 92nd minute. 96 minutes into the game, Ximenes Castilla cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-3. Josef Witlatschil was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. The Independiente players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
