Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Rubén Martínez ran back to his position shaking his head. 3 minutes into the match, FC Buzău's goal looked a bit too open when Rubén Martínez came free, but Gheorghe Baldovin reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Gheorghe Baldovin came out of the goal in the 7th minute to try and stop a shot by Colo-Colo's Rubén Martínez. But to his dismay, Rubén Martínez quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rubén Martínez in the 14th minute of play forced FC Buzău's goalkeeper Gheorghe Baldovin to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Vintilă Stoicea hit a great freekick 17 minutes into the match. Vintilă Stoicea made in the 19th minute of the game a fairly good throw-in which was taken care of by Cătălin Arjoca. 21 minutes into the game, Colo-Colo's Rubén Martínez nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Gheorghe Baldovin made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. Gheorghe Baldovin made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Honorio Droguett in the 29th minute of play. The corner led Colo-Colo's Marco-Antonio Etcheverry to fire away a dangerous shot which Gheorghe Baldovin despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Gheorghe Baldovin showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Honorio Droguett, who was totally free with the ball in the 34th minute. It was a well-played corner which Marco-Antonio Etcheverry managed to volley towards the net. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-2 lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Rubén Martínez made a kick off. A collision led to Colo-Colo getting a freekick after 54 minutes play. José Julio Almeida hit a great ball. When the match had gone on for 58 minutes, Rubén Martínez took a quick shot and it went in 0-3 without a chance for Gheorghe Baldovin to make any attempt to save it. Rambo Ramírez made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Traian Balaban in the 62nd minute of play. 63 minutes into the game, Pablo Solari threw the ball into play from the sideline. FC Buzău's Vintilă Stoicea quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. Colo-Colo's Rambo Ramírez played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Traian Balaban in the 64th minute of play. Rambo Ramírez showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Leonard Aanuţei in the 69th minute of the match. When the match had gone on for 75 minutes, Traian Balaban put it in 1-3 from a short distance just to the right of Rambo Ramírez. In the 80th minute the ball was on its way in behind Colo-Colo's goalkeeper Rambo Ramírez, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Ivo Basay received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Gheorghe Baldovin came out and tried to block the shot, but Ivo Basay slotted it home off the left post making it 1-4 in the 85th minute. After 87 minutes, José Julio Almeida mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Colo-Colo and the FC Buzău players grew even worse after the yellow card. Rambo Ramírez took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Traian Balaban, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Colo-Colo eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
