The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 3 minutes into the match, Sydney FC's goal looked a bit too open when Anthon Eliasson came free, but Axel Ballhaus reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Christian Håkansson in the 12th minute of play forced Sydney FC's goalkeeper Axel Ballhaus to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Axel Ballhaus showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Anthon Eliasson in the 18th minute of the match. 18 minutes in the game, Anthon Eliasson dribbled his way through the penalty area and after maneuvering past an opponent, drilled a quick shot at the goal. The ball looked like it was going in, but it was hit a bit too hard and flew over the goal. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Anthon Eliasson in the 21st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Axel Ballhaus prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 23rd minute, Leonard Christoffersson hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Per Schäfer kicked well hit freekick during the 26th minute of the match. Axel Ballhaus made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Anthon Eliasson in the 28th minute of play. After 31 minutes, Anthon Eliasson made it 0-1 with a short kick to the right side. Sydney FC's Axel Ballhaus tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Don Küttner kicked well hit freekick during the 33rd minute of the match. 34 minutes into the game, Anthon Eliasson was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Degerfors IF's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Sydney FC the free kick. Erich Egger's late challenge caught a Degerfors IF's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Leonard Christoffersson charged in rather forcefully in the 45th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Leonard Christoffersson the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

The wind increased when Thorben Rittmann made the kick off in the second half. Axel Ballhaus took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Anthon Eliasson, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After having played for 54 minutes, Anthon Eliasson managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Degerfors IF's supporters crossed their fingers, but Anthon Eliasson was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 60th minute the ball was on its way in behind Sydney FC's goalkeeper Axel Ballhaus, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Anthon Eliasson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 63rd minute. Axel Ballhaus tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 67 minutes into the game, Degerfors IF's Anthon Eliasson nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Axel Ballhaus made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. Axel Ballhaus made an important save on a dangerous shot by Anthon Eliasson in the 77th minute. After 80 played minutes Degerfors IF got a freekick which was hit by Zé Simões. In the 81st minute Bartolomeo Heinlein shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Sebastian Sandberg saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
