Rafael Mota's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Moisés da Silveira read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 7th minute of play. The supporters of Grêmio FBPA booed when Squadra Demarchi was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 8 match minutes in a wonderful position. Paulinho Paraibano didn't get a good kick on the ball. 9 minutes into the game, Grêmio FBPA's Alberto Barros nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Ramiro Mello made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. In the 13thth minute of the game Júnior Meirelles who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Grêmio FBPA's Moisés da Silveira was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The supporters of Squadra Demarchi booed when Grêmio FBPA was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 17 match minutes in a wonderful position. Genílson Salgado didn't get a good kick on the ball. Squadra Demarchi's Ramiro Mello played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Norberto Quadros in the 20th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Squadra Demarchi's zone, Norberto Quadros stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ramiro Mello came out of the goal and Norberto Quadros tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 31 minutes into the game, Squadra Demarchi's Rafael Mota nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Moisés da Silveira made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. In the 34th minute, Rafael Mota got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Ramiro Mello came out of the goal in the 36th minute to try and stop a shot by Grêmio FBPA's Norberto Quadros. But to his dismay, Norberto Quadros quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-2. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Júnior Meirelles was the one to do the kick off. After 53 played minutes Squadra Demarchi got a freekick which was hit by Jano Bueno. In the 57th minute of the match, Alberto Barros got a very nice opportunity to score, but Ramiro Mello was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. In the 60th minute, Ernesto Pereira hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 69th minute Claudinho Loyola shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Moisés da Silveira saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Claudinho Pinho hit a great freekick 72 minutes into the match. The supporters of Grêmio FBPA booed when Squadra Demarchi was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 74 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jano Bueno didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 78th minute, Eduardo Miranda hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Moisés da Silveira showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rafael Mota in the 79th minute of the match. Jano Bueno kicked well hit freekick during the 81st minute of the match. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Willian Aguiar during the 85th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card.
