The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The supporters of Olivedos booed when Independiente was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 2 match minutes in a wonderful position. Aldo Iruinea didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 3 played minutes, Olivedos's Carlos Augusto de Barros shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Lorenzo Vincent came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Olivedos reached it. 6 minutes into the game, Nando Sampaio was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Olivedos's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Independiente the free kick. In the 13th minute, Aldo Iruinea hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 17th minute, Jacinto Estavan made a precise shot to the right of Patrick Miranda. Olivedos's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-0. Olivedos's Murilo Palmeira pulled a muscle in his leg after 20 minutes and couldn't finish the game. Olivedos made a substitution. Laércio Moraes replaced Murilo Palmeira. After 21 played minutes Independiente got a freekick which was hit by Paulo Garin. A collision led to Olivedos getting a freekick after 25 minutes play. Valdemar Braga hit a great ball. Patrick Miranda made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jacinto Estavan in the 26th minute of play. Zeledon Sazon kicked a quick shot right in front of the goal in the 29thth minute. Though ot was a great shot Olivedos's keeper Patrick Miranda was sill able to block leaving the score board unchanged. After 29 minutes, Zeledon Sazon made it 2-0 with a short kick to the right side. Olivedos's Patrick Miranda tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. After having played for 32 minutes, Laércio Moraes managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Olivedos's supporters crossed their fingers, but Laércio Moraes was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 34th match minute, Olivedos was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Antônio Carlos Valadares to maneuver through the defense. Patrick Miranda took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Zeledon Sazon, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 40 minutes into the match, Independiente's Leo Victoro sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Patrick Miranda narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 41st minute, Jacinto Estavan got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Laércio Moraes charged in rather forcefully in the 44th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Laércio Moraes the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Laércio Moraes kicked well hit freekick during the 45th minute of the match. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-0 at half-time.

The wind increased when Zeledon Sazon made the kick off in the second half. Patrick Miranda made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Leo Victoro in the 57th minute of play. When Victor Hug fell near the penalty area in the 60th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Independiente's protests and gave Victor Hug a yellow card for diving instead. Patrick Miranda showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jacinto Estavan in the 63rd minute of the match. A collision led to Independiente getting a freekick after 66 minutes play. Zeledon Sazon hit a great ball. After 68 minutes, Leo Victoro mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Independiente and the Olivedos players grew even worse after the yellow card. Abel Cabral shot from long distance in the 69th minute, but Lorenzo Vincent was prepared and stopped the ball at the left post. Jacinto Estavan hit a great freekick 73 minutes into the match. Abel Cabral sent away a hard shot on goal in the 75th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 77th match minute, Olivedos was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Abel Cabral to maneuver through the defense. Patrick Miranda showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Feliciano Jaunti in the 78th minute of the match. In the 78th minute Feliciano Jaunti shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Patrick Miranda saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Leo Victoro in the 83rd minute of play forced Olivedos's goalkeeper Patrick Miranda to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to Independiente getting a freekick after 85 minutes play. Leo Victoro hit a great ball. Patrick Miranda showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Feliciano Jaunti in the 87th minute of the match. In the 91st minute, Jacinto Estavan hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Nando Sampaio had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 97th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Independiente fully deserved thier win.
