A collision led to Motta Futebol Clube getting a freekick after 11 minutes play. Ezequiel Matorin hit a great ball. Cleto Efren did some fancy footwork in front of goal and succeeded to deceive the defenders so he could slam the ball in 1-0 to the left of a surprised Pedrão Furlan 13 minutes into the match. Pedrão Furlan showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Everardo Johans in the 19th minute of the match. With a little luck, Motta Futebol Clube's Pedrão Furlan got control of the ball when Angelo Joseph tried to sneak it across the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Atlético Nacional's zone, Enéas Bertassi stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Aquiles Iago came out of the goal and Enéas Bertassi tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Wilfredo Berriotxoa could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 25th minute of the match, but Pedrão Furlan made a huge save. 25 minutes into the match, Motta Futebol Clube's goalkeeper Pedrão Furlan had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Wilfredo Berriotxoa. Through an outstanding action, after 34 minutes, Pedrão Furlan successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Juninho Pombal was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 43 minutes into the match. In the 43rd minute, one of Motta Futebol Clube:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Motta Futebol Clube. Motta Futebol Clube:s Pedrão Furlan showed great skill when he stopped Everardo Johans:s penalty. Everardo Johans did an outstanding performance 46 minutes into the match, when he by himself got past the opposing team's defense and with a quick scored 3-0 to the right of an irritated Pedrão Furlan in the goal. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 3-0 at half-time.

Motta Futebol Clube made a substitution. Zeca Esteves replaced Ezequiel Matorin. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Wilfredo Berriotxoa made a kick off. Aquiles Iago made an important save on a dangerous shot by Célio Mazza in the 54th minute. Atlético Nacional's Wilfredo Berriotxoa got a good chance for a goal in the 58th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 61st minute Cleto Efren shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pedrão Furlan saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Luís Eduardo Reis came up free with the goalie in the 66th minute, the Motta Futebol Clube fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Luís Eduardo Reis couldn't finish the play. Pedrão Furlan took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cleto Efren, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Angelo Joseph in the 73rd minute of play forced Motta Futebol Clube's goalkeeper Pedrão Furlan to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Célio Mazza had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 81st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Motta Futebol Clube. When the match had gone on for 99 minutes, Everardo Johans put it in 4-0 from a short distance just to the right of Pedrão Furlan. Motta Futebol Clube's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
