The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Juan-Angel Ordax during the 8th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Juan-Angel Ordax hit a great freekick 8 minutes into the match. 9 minutes into the match, Astillero del Guayas's goal looked a bit too open when Afonsinho Mendonça came free, but Blanco Vidales reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Vitinho do Nascimento took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alfredo Rioboo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Diego Carredano could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 17th minute of the match, but Vitinho do Nascimento made a huge save. The supporters of Astillero del Guayas booed when SHINERAY FC - DMZ was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 22 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rony Camargo didn't get a good kick on the ball. Astillero del Guayas's Diego Carredano got a good chance for a goal in the 46th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Afonsinho Mendonça made a kick off.
