An unexpectedly hard shot by Gerrie Kuijsten in the 3rd minute of play forced Szombathely Squirrels's goalkeeper Róbert Kormos to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience was convinced that Gusztáv Győrffy's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Serge Buring was relentless in the 4th minute of the game. Dániel Szabadi was slow to take the kick. During this time Szombathely Squirrels's players had a chance to rest. Serge Buring was a little too slow when Ottó Vámosi got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 30th minute. The score was now 2-0. Róbert Kormos showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gerrie Kuijsten, who was totally free with the ball in the 36th minute. Ágætis Byrjun's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Marcus Zaagman in the 37th minute. The corner went over the outstretched arms of Szombathely Squirrels's goalie and right to Maurice Haydon. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. Szombathely Squirrels's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. When the match clock showed 40 minutes, the score became 2-1 when Maurice Haydon sped through Szombathely Squirrels's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Róbert Kormos. In the 43rd minute, Lajos Jakó hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.

The wind increased when Gerrie Kuijsten made the kick off in the second half. Róbert Kormos took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Serge Fleur, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 53rd minute, Ágætis Byrjun's Serge Fleur ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Róbert Kormos. Róbert Kormos yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-2. In the 57th minute Ottó Vámosi shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Serge Buring saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of Ágætis Byrjun booed when Szombathely Squirrels was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 61 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ottó Vámosi didn't get a good kick on the ball. Róbert Kormos was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 66th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Marcus Zaagman. Serge Buring took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Lajos Jakó, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 69 played minutes Szombathely Squirrels got a freekick which was hit by Zsolt Lázár. 72 minutes into the match, Gerrie Kuijsten dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Róbert Kormos, 2-5. Róbert Kormos made a fantastic save in the 76th minute, when Gerrie Kuijsten sent off a good shot on target. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Ottó Vámosi in the 80th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Serge Buring saved Ágætis Byrjun from getting behind. Serge Buring made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Vendel Vámosi in the 82nd minute of play. In the 86th minute, Ottó Vámosi made a precise shot to the right of Serge Buring. Ágætis Byrjun's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 3-5. In the 88th match minute, Szombathely Squirrels was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ottó Vámosi to maneuver through the defense. Dénes Boross charged in rather forcefully in the 93rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Dénes Boross the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 93 played minutes Szombathely Squirrels got a freekick which was hit by Dénes Boross. Róbert Kormos made a fantastic save in the 96th minute, when Gerrie Kuijsten sent off a good shot on target. The Ágætis Byrjun supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Ágætis Byrjun would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
