In the 10th minute Fernán Nancupel shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lauro Linhares saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Glauco Paranaense could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 15th minute of the match, but Jorge Vicente Basay made a huge save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Clemencín Varas in the 18th minute of play forced CE LAJEADENSE RS's goalkeeper Lauro Linhares to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Lauro Linhares showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Abel Gana in the 20th minute of the match. After 23 played minutes, Club Deportes Santa Cruz's Mercurio Pasos shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Lauro Linhares came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Club Deportes Santa Cruz reached it. 27 minutes into the game, CE LAJEADENSE RS's Luiz Fernando Martins nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Jorge Vicente Basay made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-0. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Fernán Nancupel in the 32nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Lauro Linhares prevented the ball from getting in the gole. If Luiz Fernando Martins had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 34th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Caio Ramos came free with the goalkeeper in the 42nd minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Jorge Vicente Basay could save by the left post. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.

The wind increased when Abel Gana made the kick off in the second half. 53 minutes into the match, Club Deportes Santa Cruz's goal looked a bit too open when Caio Ramos came free, but Jorge Vicente Basay reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a rather tough play, CE LAJEADENSE RS's Luiz Fernando Martins got a free kick in the 61st minute. Lauro Linhares made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Abel Gana in the 62nd minute of play. Lauro Linhares showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Carlos José Angulo, who was totally free with the ball in the 65th minute. In the 67th match minute, CE LAJEADENSE RS was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Luiz Fernando Martins to maneuver through the defense. After a rather tough play, Club Deportes Santa Cruz's Carlos José Angulo got a free kick in the 75th minute. Club Deportes Santa Cruz's Jorge Vicente Basay played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luiz Fernando Martins in the 76th minute of play. Jorge Vicente Basay showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Caio Ramos, who was totally free with the ball in the 83rd minute. Lauro Linhares made a fantastic save in the 92nd minute, when Abel Gana sent off a good shot on target. An unexpectedly hard shot by Caio Ramos in the 95th minute of play forced Club Deportes Santa Cruz's goalkeeper Jorge Vicente Basay to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Abel Gana received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 96th minute. Lauro Linhares tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Club Deportes Santa Cruz's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
