But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Sílvio Luís Ceresso couldn't finish the play. Leopoldo Petri showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Vambola Probach, who was totally free with the ball in the 15th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Los Hornos's zone, Aníbal Pirani stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Leopoldo Petri came out of the goal and Aníbal Pirani tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After having played for 29 minutes, Aníbal Pirani managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. JFSP's supporters crossed their fingers, but Aníbal Pirani was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 30 played minutes Los Hornos got a freekick which was hit by Fabian Valery. After a rather tough play, Los Hornos's Roberto Iruinea got a free kick in the 41st minute. Thanks to some nice moves Sílvio Luís Ceresso could shoot a difficult shot in the 42nd minute, which Leopoldo Petri however easily saved by the left post. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Vambola Probach to make the kick off. 52 minutes into the match, JFSP's Vambola Probach sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Leopoldo Petri narrowly saved just below the crossbar. 53 minutes had been played when some careless play by Los Hornos's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. The corner ended in Remo Salles almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Los Hornos's Leopoldo Petri did a great save. The supporters of Los Hornos booed when JFSP was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 62 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gláuber Fonseca didn't get a good kick on the ball. Los Hornos's Cipriano Raulo got his second yellow card of the match in the 67th minute. The referee ordered Cipriano Raulo off the ground. In the 78th match minute, Los Hornos was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cosme Manilan to maneuver through the defense. 86 minutes into the match, Los Hornos's goal looked a bit too open when Sílvio Luís Ceresso came free, but Leopoldo Petri reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
