Atlético Municipal's Chuan Cintron played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Uriel Ferrer in the 7th minute of play. Willie Colon scored 1-0 in the 9th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Denis Paulin, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 11th minute Willie Colon shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Denis Paulin saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a little luck, Defensores de Lombroso's Denis Paulin got control of the ball when Willie Colon tried to sneak it across the goal line. Chuan Cintron made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Lionel-Andrés Messi in the 14th minute of play. In the 15th minute Claude Sena shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Denis Paulin saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Chuan Cintron showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Roman Riquelme, who was totally free with the ball in the 17th minute. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Lucio Cordarrol during the 20th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of Atlético Municipal booed when Defensores de Lombroso was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 20 match minutes in a wonderful position. Lucio Cordarrol didn't get a good kick on the ball. Oscar De León struck a weak shot in the 21st minute. Denis Paulin didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Atlético Municipal. Oscar De León blasted a shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Denis Paulin having to make a save. Lionel-Andrés Messi hit a great freekick 31 minutes into the match. After 33 minutes Defensores de Lombroso's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Claude Sena who took care of the corner kick. A nice corner shot did that Claude Sena got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Denis Paulin quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Denis Paulin made a fantastic save in the 36th minute, when Claude Sena sent off a good shot on target. In the 38th minute, Atlético Municipal's Willie Colon ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Denis Paulin. Denis Paulin yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-0. Lionel-Andrés Messi fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 44th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Chuan Cintron having to interfere. After 46 played minutes Atlético Municipal got a freekick which was hit by Nuno Galve. 47 minutes into the match, Atlético Municipal's goal looked a bit too open when Godfredo Gau came free, but Chuan Cintron reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Defensores de Lombroso's Amadeo Raebert was substituted for Roman Riquelme. The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Willie Colon to strike the kick off in the second half. 55 minutes into the match, Defensores de Lombroso's goal looked a bit too open when Willie Colon came free, but Denis Paulin reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
