Americo Suero started the match with the kick off. After 9 minutes Sporting de Gijón's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Gunnar Hake who took care of the corner kick. 12 minutes into the game, Sporting de Gijón's Saturnino Curcio nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Erhan İren made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. Alejandro Rufo hit a great freekick 15 minutes into the match. With a little luck, Sporting de Gijón's Óscar Cordoba got control of the ball when John Ryberg tried to sneak it across the goal line. When Teɱperłey Cɨŧy's Americo Suero in the 19th minute got a chance for a shot 19th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. Erhan İren showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Saturnino Curcio in the 34th minute of the match. With an all-out effort, Teɱperłey Cɨŧy's Óscar Cordoba threw himself towards the right post 35 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Americo Suero, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. 38 minutes into the match, Sporting de Gijón's goalkeeper Óscar Cordoba had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Esteban Loi. In the 38th minute of the match, Esteban Loi got a very nice opportunity to score, but Óscar Cordoba was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. John Ryberg who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 46thth minute tested the skills of Óscar Cordoba when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Matias Bilintx made a kick off. Erhan İren showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Saturnino Curcio, who was totally free with the ball in the 51st minute. 55 minutes into the match, Sporting de Gijón's goal looked a bit too open when John Ryberg came free, but Óscar Cordoba reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Óscar Cordoba took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Esteban Loi, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Americo Suero in the 58th minute of play forced Sporting de Gijón's goalkeeper Óscar Cordoba to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Saturnino Curcio received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 59th minute. Erhan İren tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 67th minute, Alvaro Raymond hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Saturnino Curcio had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 68th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Thanks to some nice moves Matias Bilintx could shoot a difficult shot in the 78th minute, which Erhan İren however easily saved by the left post. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alan Franco in the 79th minute of play forced Sporting de Gijón's goalkeeper Óscar Cordoba to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Saturnino Curcio kicked well hit freekick during the 84th minute of the match. After having played for 86 minutes, Alvaro Raymond managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Teɱperłey Cɨŧy's supporters crossed their fingers, but Alvaro Raymond was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Mario Zanabria charged in rather forcefully in the 88th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Mario Zanabria the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, Sporting de Gijón's Mario Zanabria got a free kick in the 88th minute. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Alvaro Raymond in the 91st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Óscar Cordoba saved Sporting de Gijón from getting behind. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Sporting de Gijón eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
