The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. An unexpectedly hard shot by Marin Giubelean in the 4th minute of play forced FC Žalia Giria's goalkeeper Adolfo Carrizo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In a very dangerous position, a player in Academia Rio fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 7th minute. Penalty! The referee gave FC Žalia Giria a penalty, 9 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Avram Lupoaia, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Academia Rio's Gigel Tilea. 1-0. If Saúl Gentiletti had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 11th minute. The referee ignored FC Žalia Giria's protests and gave Vaidas Maciulevičius a yellow card for diving instead. With a little luck, Academia Rio's Gigel Tilea got control of the ball when Saúl Gentiletti tried to sneak it across the goal line. 39 minutes into the game, Marin Giubelean cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-1. Adolfo Carrizo was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. 42 minutes into the game, Academia Rio's Marin Giubelean nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Adolfo Carrizo made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-2. In the 45th minute Marin Giubelean shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Adolfo Carrizo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Academia Rio made a substitution. Sergiu Coșeriu replaced Marin Giubelean. The wind increased when Saúl Gentiletti made the kick off in the second half. FC Žalia Giria's Adolfo Carrizo proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 58th minute of the match, managed to save FC Žalia Giria from getting a goal against them. Academia Rio's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. In the 64th minute, Saúl Gentiletti hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Academia Rio made a substitution. Valeriu Ilinca replaced Avram Tudor. Lucian Petriceanu kicked well hit freekick during the 68th minute of the match. In the 71st minute Vaidas Maciulevičius shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gigel Tilea saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Adolfo Carrizo stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Sergiu Coșeriu's shot from short distance in the 89th minute. Saúl Gentiletti's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Gigel Tilea read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 91st minute of play.

There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. FC Žalia Giria fully deserved thier win.
