An unexpectedly hard shot by Jean Britton in the 3rd minute of play forced Sporting de Gijón's goalkeeper Óscar Cordoba to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Herb Good made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Denis Bonadona in the 6th minute of play. Esteban Ekaitz hit a great freekick 7 minutes into the match. Sporting de Gijón's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Saturnino Curcio in the 14th minute. Jean Britton sent away a hard shot on goal in the 17th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Óscar Cordoba was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Jean Britton showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-0 in the 19 minute of play. The crowd rose to their feet as Jean Britton kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Óscar Cordoba. That made the score 2-0 in the 24 minute of play. Herb Good took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Denis Bonadona, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. With a little luck, Sporting de Gijón's Óscar Cordoba got control of the ball when Jean Britton tried to sneak it across the goal line. Sporting de Gijón's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Jean Britton 33 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 3-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alejandro Rufo in the 36th minute of play forced Sport Lisboa e Benfica's goalkeeper Herb Good to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to Sport Lisboa e Benfica getting a freekick after 38 minutes play. Du Lei Bin hit a great ball. Óscar Cordoba made an important save on a dangerous shot by Jean Britton in the 40th minute. After taking down the ball on Sport Lisboa e Benfica's corner Trey Easley fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Óscar Cordoba quite easily take care of the ball. Herb Good took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Matias Bilintx, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 3-0.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Matias Bilintx to strike the kick off in the second half. Rainier Steiner hit a great freekick 50 minutes into the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 55th minute, Jean Britton managed to get in a good position for a shot. Sport Lisboa e Benfica's supporters rose to their feet, but Jean Britton was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Óscar Cordoba breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 59 minutes into the game, Jean Britton cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 4-0. Óscar Cordoba was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 68th minute the ball was on its way in behind Sporting de Gijón's goalkeeper Óscar Cordoba, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Sporting de Gijón's Mario Zanabria was substituted for Alejandro Rufo. Sport Lisboa e Benfica's attentive Du Lei Bin managed to snatch the ball when Niceto Dominix made a throw-in in the 74th minute of the game. After 76 played minutes Sporting de Gijón got a freekick which was hit by Niceto Dominix. Sport Lisboa e Benfica's Herb Good proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 79th minute of the match, managed to save Sport Lisboa e Benfica from getting a goal against them. After 80 minutes of play, Sporting de Gijón's Matias Bilintx made it 4-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Herb Good was left in no man's land by his defense there! In the 87th play minute Matias Bilintx came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Herb Good. 4-2. The audience cheered when Trey Easley's long shot passed Óscar Cordoba's right side. It was 5-2, 96 minutes into the match.
