Ronaldo Pirani started the match with the kick off. Ronaldo Piranis short, quick shot in the 5thth minute got Taco Zwartkruis to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. The supporters of Julias Rascals Apeldoorn booed when Palestra do Interior was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 6 match minutes in a wonderful position. Doni Pimenta didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 9th minute, Nelsinho Marinho ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Taco Zwartkruis was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-0. In the 12th minute, Gert Warneke hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Taco Zwartkruis showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Nelson Xavier, who was totally free with the ball in the 13th minute. Antônio Carlos Cavalcante took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rik Meijs, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 21 minutes into the game, Palestra do Interior's Ronaldo Pirani nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Taco Zwartkruis made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-0. 25 minutes into the game, Doni Pimenta was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Palestra do Interior's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Julias Rascals Apeldoorn the free kick. Taco Zwartkruis stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Ezequiel de Souza's shot from short distance in the 28th minute. Ronaldo Pirani could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 29th minute of the match, but Taco Zwartkruis made a huge save. 31 minutes into the match, Palestra do Interior's goal looked a bit too open when Rien Bakker came free, but Antônio Carlos Cavalcante reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Nelsinho Marinho came up free with the goalie in the 41st minute, the Palestra do Interior fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Nelsinho Marinho couldn't finish the play. After 46 played minutes Julias Rascals Apeldoorn got a freekick which was hit by Ferdi van der Struijk. In the 47th minute, Nelsinho Marinho sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Julias Rascals Apeldoorn's Taco Zwartkruis didn't even have to move. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Rien Bakker who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 52ndth minute tested the skills of Antônio Carlos Cavalcante when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Rik Meijs hit a great freekick 54 minutes into the match. After a rather tough play, Julias Rascals Apeldoorn's Rien Bakker got a free kick in the 56th minute. Ronaldo Pirani might have been able to make a better finish in the 63rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Taco Zwartkruis. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Ronaldo Pirani ran back to his position shaking his head. After recieving a nice pass, Palestra do Interior's Nelson Xavier tried to score from far away in the 65th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. In the 76th minute, Gert Warneke hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 82 played minutes Palestra do Interior got a freekick which was hit by Luisão de Medeiros. In the 84th minute, Ronaldo Pirani got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal.
