The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. An unexpectedly hard shot by Leocadio Hebia in the 10th minute of play forced Sporting de Gijón's goalkeeper Óscar Cordoba to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 12 minutes had been played when some careless play by Sporting de Gijón's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Zhelyo Haynadzhiev was slow to take the kick. During this time THE CLUB's players had a chance to rest. After taking down the ball on THE CLUB's corner Zhelyo Haynadzhiev fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Óscar Cordoba quite easily take care of the ball. After 44 minutes, Saturnino Curcio mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Sporting de Gijón and the THE CLUB players grew even worse after the yellow card.
