After 27 minutes Granville's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Eric Snowden who took care of the corner kick. C. A. Independiente's Kerry Sellers was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Andrea Cellucci in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. In the 29th minute Kerry Sellers shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Andrea Cellucci saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in C. A. Independiente's zone, Chi-Chi Branca stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Farid Mondragón came out of the goal and Chi-Chi Branca tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 33 minutes into the match, Kerry Sellers notched a goal, 1-0, to the right of Granville's Andrea Cellucci. Andrea Cellucci was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. In the 36th minute the ball was on its way in behind C. A. Independiente's goalkeeper Farid Mondragón, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 38 minutes into the match, Granville's goalkeeper Andrea Cellucci had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Claudio Marangoni. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

In the 52nd minute Serafino Urko shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Farid Mondragón saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
