Merced AFC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. 10 minutes into the match, Merced AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Leandro Chorche came free, but Salvador Lazcano reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Merced AFC's Salvador Lazcano played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Fabio Monte in the 11th minute of play. After some careless play in the Merced AFC defense, Leandro Chorche kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Salvador Lazcano. The Merced AFC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Salvador Lazcano should have stopped the shot. An unexpectedly hard shot by Baltasar Alfonso in the 16th minute of play forced Northern California's goalkeeper David Schembri to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Salvador Lazcano showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Serafin Ilazki in the 19th minute of the match. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Fabio Monte to make the kick off. Bernard McFrank kicked well hit freekick during the 51st minute of the match. In the 55th minute of the match, Serafin Ilazki tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Salvador Lazcano saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Salvador Lazcano made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Antonio Guillelme in the 97th minute of play.
