Emanuel Hârșu fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 11th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Andréas Linquist having to interfere. In the 13th minute, Grêmio FBPA's Virgiliu Doroftei dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 3-0. After a rather tough play, Grêmio FBPA's Geovanildo Zago got a free kick in the 15th minute. The crowd rose to their feet as Virgiliu Doroftei kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Zheng Zhen. That made the score 4-0 in the 21 minute of play. 25 minutes into the game, Grêmio FBPA's Virgiliu Doroftei nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Zheng Zhen made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 5-0. After a defensive mix-up in Real Madrid's zone, Stayko Vakareliyski stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Zheng Zhen came out of the goal and Stayko Vakareliyski tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Gaitan Melic kicked well hit freekick during the 30th minute of the match. Virgiliu Doroftei's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 34thth minute, Zheng Zhen skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Virgiliu Doroftei in the 34thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Zheng Zhen, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Zheng Zhen showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Virgiliu Doroftei, who was totally free with the ball in the 36th minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Virgiliu Doroftei got free with Zheng Zhen in the 38th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 45th minute, Mugurel Nediu made a precise shot to the right of Andréas Linquist. Grêmio FBPA's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 5-1. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 5-1 at half-time.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Mugurel Nediu made a kick off. After 53 played minutes Real Madrid got a freekick which was hit by Emanuel Hârșu. Zheng Zhen came out of the goal in the 55th minute to try and stop a shot by Grêmio FBPA's Virgiliu Doroftei. But to his dismay, Virgiliu Doroftei quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 6-1. Zheng Zhen showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gilberto Thuram in the 58th minute of the match. Inocencio Nicholas hit a great freekick 63 minutes into the match. After a rather tough play, Real Madrid's Inocencio Nicholas got a free kick in the 64th minute. In the 64th minute, Virgiliu Doroftei left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Grêmio FBPA fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 7-1. 68 minutes into the match, Grêmio FBPA's goal looked a bit too open when Mugurel Nediu came free, but Andréas Linquist reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Mugurel Nediu in the 68th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Andréas Linquist prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After a defensive mix-up in Real Madrid's zone, Virgiliu Doroftei stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Zheng Zhen came out of the goal and Virgiliu Doroftei tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. A sloppy throw-in by Geovanildo Zago in the 77th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Real Madrid's Gaitan Melic. In the 83rd minute, Virgiliu Doroftei got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Décio Negri's late challenge caught a Real Madrid's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Décio Negri helped the player get up and apologised. After 85 played minutes Grêmio FBPA got a freekick which was hit by Décio Negri. Décio Negri hit a great freekick 86 minutes into the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 89th minute, Virgiliu Doroftei managed to get in a good position for a shot. Grêmio FBPA's supporters rose to their feet, but Virgiliu Doroftei was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Zheng Zhen breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 92 minutes into the game, Geovanildo Zago threw the ball into play from the sideline. Real Madrid's Gaitan Melic quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion.
