Cor Wiarda showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Keely Martyn in the 3rd minute of the match. Keely Martyn might have been able to make a better finish in the 8th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Cor Wiarda. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Keely Martyn ran back to his position shaking his head. With a little luck, Sopsum FC's Cor Wiarda got control of the ball when Keely Martyn tried to sneak it across the goal line. After a rather tough play, Sopsum FC's Cor Hostede got a free kick in the 9th minute. Keely Martyn struck a weak shot in the 10th minute. Cor Wiarda didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Clontoe. 11 minutes into the game, Berrin Dimson was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Clontoe's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Sopsum FC the free kick. Keely Martyn's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Cor Wiarda read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 14th minute of play. 16 minutes into the match, Clontoe's goal looked a bit too open when Wilfred Zwarthoet came free, but Bow McPhil reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Keely Martyn during the 17th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of Sopsum FC booed when Clontoe was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 20 match minutes in a wonderful position. Barney Martyn didn't get a good kick on the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Keely Martyn got free with Cor Wiarda in the 46th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Jean-Paul Dirks was the one to do the kick off. Bow McPhil made a fantastic save in the 74th minute, when Wilfred Zwarthoet sent off a good shot on target.
