The audience thought a goal was coming when Petruț Fințescu got free with Árpád Mészáros in the 3rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Árpád Mészáros came out of the goal in the 5th minute to try and stop a shot by Argentinos Juniors's Sven de Zwaan. But to his dismay, Sven de Zwaan quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. If Enock Fortuin had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 12th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Petruț Fințescu could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 14th minute of the match, but Árpád Mészáros made a huge save. In the 15th minute, Sven de Zwaan made a precise shot to the right of Árpád Mészáros. FC Johannesburg's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-0. In the 18th minute, Enock Fortuin hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. A collision led to FC Johannesburg getting a freekick after 22 minutes play. In the 29th minute Eleuterio Milian shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Árpád Mészáros saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Argentinos Juniors's Leon Richie was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Árpád Mészáros in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Cornelio Semeno hit a great freekick 34 minutes into the match. Árpád Mészáros showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mats Falch, who was totally free with the ball in the 38th minute. In the 40th match minute, Argentinos Juniors was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cornelio Semeno to maneuver through the defense. In the 94th minute, Leon Richie got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal.
