The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Samuel Evarado made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Murray Schmitz in the 13th minute of play. 14 minutes in the game Segundo Hernando did a throw-in, and the ball was quickly in game thanks to Hong Copeland. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Mauricio Ekaitz in the 16th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Fernando Navarro Montoya prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Fernando Navarro Montoya stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Mauricio Ekaitz's shot from short distance in the 17th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Sidney Cavazos in the 18th minute of play forced Hermosillo FC's goalkeeper Samuel Evarado to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Diego Simeone kicked well hit freekick during the 24th minute of the match. Hermosillo FC's Samuel Evarado played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Édouard Bacon in the 38th minute of play.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Lothaire Maddox to make the kick off. Mauricio Ekaitz's late challenge caught a Club Atlético Lanús's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Mauricio Ekaitz helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, Hermosillo FC's Mauricio Ekaitz got a free kick in the 59th minute. Hermosillo FC's Mauricio Ekaitz got a good chance for a goal in the 60th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Hermosillo FC made a substitution. Amuchechukwu McPherson replaced Javier Quentin. Chico Che hit a great freekick 65 minutes into the match. 69 minutes in the game Diego Simeone did a throw-in, and the ball was quickly in game thanks to Hong Copeland. After 71 minutes of play, Hermosillo FC's Mauricio Ekaitz made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Fernando Navarro Montoya was left in no man's land by his defense there! After having played for 75 minutes, Murray Schmitz managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Club Atlético Lanús's supporters crossed their fingers, but Murray Schmitz was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Samuel Evarado made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Lothaire Maddox in the 77th minute of play. Mauricio Ekaitz recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 79th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Diego Simeone hit a great freekick 89 minutes into the match. Hermosillo FC's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
