Nestor Paraibano recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 6th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After 11 minutes, Noel Broom mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Garlic Eaters and the Marquês de Herval players grew even worse after the yellow card. Noel Broom kicked well hit freekick during the 11th minute of the match. Nikolay Bonkov took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Pedro Luís da Rocha, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Lorenzo Mendebal hit a great freekick 14 minutes into the match. The long shot by Noel Broom in the 15th minute really tested Dida Taffarel's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. Alfredo Martins sent away a hard shot on goal in the 18th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Nikolay Bonkov made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nestor Paraibano in the 23rd minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by German Cano in the 28th minute of play forced Garlic Eaters's goalkeeper Nikolay Bonkov to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some careless play in the Garlic Eaters defense, Alfredo Martins kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Nikolay Bonkov. The Garlic Eaters fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Nikolay Bonkov should have stopped the shot. Dida Taffarel made a fantastic save in the 37th minute, when Fitz Lambley sent off a good shot on target. Nikolay Bonkov made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alfredo Martins in the 40th minute of play. Garlic Eaters's Nikolay Bonkov played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alfredo Martins in the 41st minute of play. The Garlic Eaters players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Marquês de Herval were winning 0-2.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Alfredo Martins made a kick off. Nikolay Bonkov made an important save on a dangerous shot by Nestor Paraibano in the 51st minute. In the 53rd minute Fitz Lambley shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dida Taffarel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Nikolay Bonkov stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Alfredo Martins's shot from short distance in the 55th minute. Garlic Eaters's Justin Collingwood was substituted for Noel Broom. In the 58th minute of the match Marquês de Herval got a corner. Garlic Eaters's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Pedro Luís da Rocha ran over to the corner to take the kick. Marquês de Herval's Pedro Luís da Rocha was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Nikolay Bonkov in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. 63 minutes into the match, Marquês de Herval's goal looked a bit too open when Greg Gavan came free, but Dida Taffarel reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Dida Taffarel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Greg Gavan, who was totally free with the ball in the 65th minute. Nikolay Bonkov stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Alfredo Martins's shot from short distance in the 68th minute. Nikolay Bonkov made a fantastic save in the 73rd minute, when Nestor Paraibano sent off a good shot on target. Dida Taffarel showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tommy Hanley in the 74th minute of the match. Garlic Eaters's Nikolay Bonkov proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 75th minute of the match, managed to save Garlic Eaters from getting a goal against them. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Alfredo Martins in the 81st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Nikolay Bonkov saved Garlic Eaters from getting behind. With his leg Nikolay Bonkov managed to avoid a goal in the 85thth minute, when Marquês de Herval's Nestor Paraibano fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Nikolay Bonkov stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Alfredo Martins's shot from short distance in the 86th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Greg Gavan in the 89th minute of play forced Marquês de Herval's goalkeeper Dida Taffarel to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 91st minute, Garlic Eaters's Nigel Ingham seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Nigel Ingham the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Garlic Eaters protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Nigel Ingham had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. The goalkeeper, Nikolay Bonkov, was totally fooled by Marquês de Herval's Pedro Luís da Rocha, who 94 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. The Marquês de Herval players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
