Girona FC's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Carlomagno Acarreta in the 13th minute. The corner led Girona FC's Gaizkine Babia to fire away a dangerous shot which Ferdinand Joldea despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. When Roman Gdaniec came up free with the goalie in the 15th minute, the Girona FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Roman Gdaniec couldn't finish the play. 19 minutes into the match, Girona FC's Walme Carballido sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Ferdinand Joldea narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Girona FC's Lastur Murcia played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Iustin Coporan in the 23rd minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Iustin Coporan got free with Lastur Murcia in the 24th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After some fancy dribbling in the 27th minute, Roman Gdaniec managed to get in a good position for a shot. Girona FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Roman Gdaniec was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ferdinand Joldea breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The audience thought a goal was coming when Martin Cubillos got free with Lastur Murcia in the 29th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 30th match minute, Girona FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Carlomagno Acarreta to maneuver through the defense. Iustin Coporan sent away a hard shot on goal in the 31st minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. The throw-in from Zachariasz Charamut in the 33rd minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Girona FC's Ovidio Maldonado. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Róbert Pál-Szabó made a kick off. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Vasile Mumuleanu in the 51st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Lastur Murcia prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The supporters of Champions Iasi booed when Girona FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 52 match minutes in a wonderful position. Iván Salgado didn't get a good kick on the ball. The referee ignored Girona FC's protests and gave Gaizkine Babia a yellow card for diving instead. Girona FC made a substitution. Alfonso De Pedro replaced Walme Carballido. Gaizkine Babia hit a great freekick 67 minutes into the match. Ferdinand Joldea showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from David Palau in the 69th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Róbert Pál-Szabó in the 85th minute of play forced Girona FC's goalkeeper Lastur Murcia to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when David Palau got free with Ferdinand Joldea in the 87th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort.
