The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. A collision led to ASC South United getting a freekick after 2 minutes play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Biagio Nola got free with Geert Meerdink in the 10th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 12th minute, Castagneto Po AFC's Fedele Pasquale ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Geert Meerdink. Geert Meerdink yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-0. The supporters of Castagneto Po AFC booed when ASC South United was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 15 match minutes in a wonderful position. Karel Bakker didn't get a good kick on the ball. Geert Meerdink showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Filippo Pinti, who was totally free with the ball in the 17th minute. Geert Meerdink took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Fedele Pasquale, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Unfortunately, he didn't get a great hit on the ball and it went out into the grandstand. Dennis Cimino showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rolf van der Saar, who was totally free with the ball in the 24th minute. If Filippo Pinti had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 29 minutes into the match, ASC South United's goal looked a bit too open when Fedele Pasquale came free, but Geert Meerdink reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Rolf van der Saar's late challenge caught a Castagneto Po AFC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Filippo Pinti in the 31st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Geert Meerdink saved ASC South United from getting behind. Geert Meerdink made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Fedele Pasquale in the 34th minute of play. Geert Meerdink didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Andrea Pinti went, in the 35th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-0 was the resulting score. 40 minutes into the match, Fedele Pasquale notched a goal, 3-0, to the right of ASC South United's Geert Meerdink. Geert Meerdink was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. An unexpectedly hard shot by Filippo Pinti in the 44th minute of play forced ASC South United's goalkeeper Geert Meerdink to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
