After some fancy dribbling in the 5th minute, Robert Tudor managed to get in a good position for a shot. U21 Romania's supporters rose to their feet, but Robert Tudor was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Vykan Víkingsson breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Vykan Víkingsson took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Robert Tudor, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Teofilo Unai fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 11th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Marioara Matei having to interfere. 14 minutes into the game, Ursus Martin was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. U21 Romania's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Wellington Phoenix the free kick. After a rather tough play, U21 Romania's Ursus Martin got a free kick in the 14th minute. Marioara Matei didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from 詹俊 á Bø went, in the 19th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. Vykan Víkingsson showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dan Braru in the 23rd minute of the match. 24 minutes into the game, Ursus Martin threw the ball into play from the sideline. Wellington Phoenix's Gabriel Magalhães quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. Marioara Matei took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from 詹俊 á Bø, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 詹俊 á Bø's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Marioara Matei read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 38th minute of play. If Teofilo Unai had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a rather tough play, Wellington Phoenix's Arthur Meireles got a free kick in the 44th minute. In the 46th minute of the match Petre Petrean sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Vykan Víkingsson skillfully saved the ball.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. 詹俊 á Bø was the one to do the kick off. In the 53rd minute, Wellington Phoenix's 詹俊 á Bø dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 0-4. Marioara Matei had in the 73rdth minute some difficulties stopping 詹俊 á Bø's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. After a defensive mix-up in U21 Romania's zone, Teofilo Unai stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Marioara Matei came out of the goal and Teofilo Unai tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 詹俊 á Bø had several of the U21 Romania's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 81 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 0-5 score and a disappointed Marioara Matei as he didn't even see the shot coming. 87 minutes into the match, U21 Romania's goalkeeper Marioara Matei had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by 詹俊 á Bø. Vykan Víkingsson showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Sebastian Mailat in the 91st minute of the match. Wellington Phoenix's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
