In the 5th match minute, Belgium was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Giles De Wortelaers to maneuver through the defense. In the 15th minute of the match, Leopold Van den Paenhuysen got a very nice opportunity to score, but Hans-Jürgen Pötscher was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. In the 19th minute the ball was on its way in behind Austria's goalkeeper Hans-Jürgen Pötscher, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 21st minute of the match Belgium got a corner. Austria's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Leopold Van den Paenhuysen ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner led to Belgium's Giles De Wortelaers getting away a dangerous shot that went just outside the goal. In the 24th minute Robin Steckamp shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Manuel Campens saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 25 minutes into the match, Belgium's Mbaka Mbolu sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Hans-Jürgen Pötscher narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Manuel Campens stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Matthias Zahn's shot from short distance in the 31st minute. When Mbaka Mbolu came up free with the goalie in the 33rd minute, the Belgium fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Mbaka Mbolu couldn't finish the play. If Robin Steckamp had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 40th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Mbaka Mbolu to make the kick off. Manuel Campens made an important save on a dangerous shot by Matthias Zahn in the 57th minute. In the 59th minute, Adrian Meinhardt reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Manuel Campens. The goal made the score 1-1. In the 65th match minute, Austria was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ovidiu Adrian to maneuver through the defense. Matthias Zahn could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 67th minute of the match, but Manuel Campens made a huge save. Belgium's Manuel Campens played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Michael-Jan Schönberg in the 68th minute of play. Austria's Daniel Tschida was substituted for Robin Steckamp. In the 73rd match minute, Belgium was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mbaka Mbolu to maneuver through the defense. Hans-Jürgen Pötscher showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Mbaka Mbolu in the 85th minute of the match. In the 87th minute, Michael-Jan Schönberg left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Austria fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-2. Hans-Jürgen Pötscher showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Mbaka Mbolu in the 93rd minute of the match. In the 94th minute Daniel Tschida shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Manuel Campens saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Torben Krabber kicked well hit freekick during the 95th minute of the match. When the match was over Austria could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Belgium throughout the match.
