The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 5 minutes into the match, Ronan McCunn had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Casper Claes. Belgium's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Ronan McCunn was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. After a rather tough play, Belgium's Yves Dervaux got a free kick in the 9th minute. Edward Vanderstraeten sent away a hard shot on goal in the 12th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Belgium's Casper Claes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ronan McCunn in the 13th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Edward Vanderstraeten in the 30th minute of play forced PHOENIX SC's goalkeeper Ray Clemence to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Frederico Hendrickx in the 33rd minute of play forced Belgium's goalkeeper Casper Claes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of PHOENIX SC booed when Belgium was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 47 match minutes in a wonderful position. Sander Dermaut didn't get a good kick on the ball. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Ronan McCunn was the one to do the kick off. In the 54th minute Frederico Hendrickx shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Casper Claes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, PHOENIX SC's Attila Toldi got a free kick in the 54th minute. Edward Vanderstraeten might have been able to make a better finish in the 57th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Ray Clemence. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Edward Vanderstraeten ran back to his position shaking his head. Ray Clemence showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Edward Vanderstraeten in the 57th minute of the match. Casper Claes made a fantastic save in the 59th minute, when Frederico Hendrickx sent off a good shot on target. Edward Vanderstraeten sent away a hard shot on goal in the 63rd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. A collision led to Belgium getting a freekick after 65 minutes play. Guillaume Bonte hit a great ball. Ray Clemence showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Edward Vanderstraeten, who was totally free with the ball in the 67th minute. In the 69th minute, Edward Vanderstraeten made a precise shot to the right of Ray Clemence. PHOENIX SC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-1. Frederico Hendrickx struck a weak shot in the 73rd minute. Casper Claes didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for PHOENIX SC. 76 minutes into the match, PHOENIX SC's goal looked a bit too open when Yves Dervaux came free, but Ray Clemence reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After some careless play in the Belgium defense, Frederico Hendrickx kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Casper Claes. The Belgium fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Casper Claes should have stopped the shot. Belgium's Edward Vanderstraeten got a good chance for a goal in the 83rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 86th minute of the match Belgium got a corner. PHOENIX SC's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Edward Vanderstraeten ran over to the corner to take the kick. Erubiel Nabar hit a great freekick 88 minutes into the match. Simon Sabbe struck a weak shot in the 89th minute. Ray Clemence didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Belgium. Edward Vanderstraeten recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 91st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The Belgium manager could be seen shouting at his players as they walked down the tunnel after the match. He was clearly angry that they had squandered their superior possession, allowing PHOENIX SC to win.
