Attard Gunners's Sergen Sergen got a good chance for a goal in the 23rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Sergen Sergen might have been able to make a better finish in the 25th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Wilson Amorim. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Sergen Sergen ran back to his position shaking his head. Wilson Amorim made an important save on a dangerous shot by Sergen Sergen in the 25th minute. After 27 minutes of play, Attard Gunners's Sergen Sergen made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Wilson Amorim was left in no man's land by his defense there! Jay Jowsey made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Viriato Moura in the 33rd minute of play. When the match clock showed 36 minutes, the score became 2-2 when Sergen Sergen sped through Portugal's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Wilson Amorim. After a rather tough play, Portugal's Daniel Pimentel got a free kick in the 38th minute. In the 39th minute, Alan Said reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Wilson Amorim. The goal made the score 3-2. In the 43rd minute Caetano Moreira shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jay Jowsey saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Felipe Barreto sent away a hard shot on goal in the 47th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Jay Jowsey took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Felipe Barreto, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 3-2 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Viriato Moura stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Portugal's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Sergen Sergen was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 5-2. Attard Gunners's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
