Jhonnatan Velis fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 8th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Marcelo Mondragon having to interfere. When the match had gone on for 11 minutes, Christian Uranga put it in 0-1 from a short distance just to the right of Marcelo Mondragon. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Jhonnatan Velis in the 15th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Marcelo Mondragon saved CD INDEPENDIENTE from getting behind. Jhonnatan Velis took the ball and in the 17 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Marcelo Mondragon. Marcelo Mondragon dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. 20 minutes into the match, CD INDEPENDIENTE's goal looked a bit too open when Christian Uranga came free, but Marcelo Mondragon reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Jhonnatan Velis had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 22nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Marcelo Mondragon showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Christian Uranga, who was totally free with the ball in the 27th minute. The supporters of Rothwell United booed when CD INDEPENDIENTE was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 30 match minutes in a wonderful position. Max Aguilar didn't get a good kick on the ball. Benjamín Carballo took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 31st minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Marcelo Mondragon. CD INDEPENDIENTE's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. 33 minutes into the game, Rothwell United's Jhonnatan Velis nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Marcelo Mondragon made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-3. After a defensive mix-up in CD INDEPENDIENTE's zone, Jhonnatan Velis stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Marcelo Mondragon came out of the goal and Jhonnatan Velis tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Marcelo Mondragon showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Christian Uranga, who was totally free with the ball in the 38th minute. CD INDEPENDIENTE's Marcelo Mondragon played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Eliseo Anaya in the 40th minute of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Jhonnatan Velis in the 43rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Marcelo Mondragon saved CD INDEPENDIENTE from getting behind. Christian Uranga's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Marcelo Mondragon read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 45th minute of play. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-3 lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Edgardo Mora was the one to do the kick off. 56 minutes into the match, Rothwell United's Christian Uranga sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Marcelo Mondragon narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Marcelo Mondragon took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jhonnatan Velis, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Edgardo Mora's late challenge caught a Rothwell United's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Edgardo Mora helped the player get up and apologised. In the 58th match minute, CD INDEPENDIENTE was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Edgardo Mora to maneuver through the defense. Jhonnatan Velis had several of the CD INDEPENDIENTE's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 59 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 0-4 score and a disappointed Marcelo Mondragon as he didn't even see the shot coming. Raúl Sigaran charged in rather forcefully in the 65th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Raúl Sigaran the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. When Christian Uranga came up free with the goalie in the 66th minute, the Rothwell United fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Christian Uranga couldn't finish the play. The crowd rose to their feet as Rothwell United's Jhonnatan Velis slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Marcelo Mondragon. That made the score 0-5 after 69 minutes of play. Marcelo Mondragon showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jhonnatan Velis, who was totally free with the ball in the 77th minute. The Rothwell United fans' excitement grew in the 80th match minute when Rothwell United's Libardo Arango looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-6 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. CD INDEPENDIENTE's Marcelo Mondragon played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Libardo Arango in the 85th minute of play. In the 86th minute of the game, Eliseo Anaya landed unfortunately after trying to head the ball, and pulled a muscle in the back, so badly that he had to leave the field. When Eliseo Rey fell near the penalty area in the 86th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored CD INDEPENDIENTE's protests and gave Eliseo Rey a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Rothwell United booed when CD INDEPENDIENTE was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 87 match minutes in a wonderful position. Eliseo Rey didn't get a good kick on the ball. Rudy Salguero sent away a hard shot on goal in the 90th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 94thth minute of the game Rudy Salguero who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but CD INDEPENDIENTE's Marcelo Mondragon was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Rothwell United's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
