FC Universidad Monterrey's Armando Arotza proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 12th minute of the match, managed to save FC Universidad Monterrey from getting a goal against them. 13 minutes into the game, Braulio Soin was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. FC Universidad Monterrey's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Calchaquí the free kick. Calchaquí's Adan Gelmiro played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Andres Berasko in the 44th minute of play. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 3-2 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Tobias Teofilio to make the kick off. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. Calchaquí had won after a very even match.
