Sharks's Fernando Abeita played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Paulo Cheche in the 16th minute of play. In the 17th minute Vladimiro Gombal suffered a thigh injury and had to be helped off the field. Paulo Obano hit a great freekick 18 minutes into the match. Roque Poz's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Fernando Abeita read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 19th minute of play. The crowd rose to their feet as Necaxa's Roque Poz slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Fernando Abeita. That made the score 1-0 after 23 minutes of play. After 30 played minutes Sharks got a freekick which was hit by Paulo Obano. 35 minutes into the match, Necaxa's goal looked a bit too open when Leandro Bladi came free, but Manuel Fero reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Fernando Abeita made an important save on a dangerous shot by Roque Poz in the 48th minute. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The supporters of Sharks booed when Necaxa was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 55 match minutes in a wonderful position. Eleuterio Fonso didn't get a good kick on the ball. After having played for 63 minutes, Rogelio Urtungo managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Sharks's supporters crossed their fingers, but Rogelio Urtungo was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When Roque Poz came up free with the goalie in the 64th minute, the Necaxa fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Roque Poz couldn't finish the play. 65 minutes into the game, Necaxa's Paulo Cheche nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Fernando Abeita made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-0. Roque Poz blasted a shot towards the goal in the 72nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Fernando Abeita having to make a save. Santos Blasco charged in rather forcefully in the 74th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Santos Blasco the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Sharks booed when Necaxa was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 76 match minutes in a wonderful position. Roque Poz didn't get a good kick on the ball. Raimundo Hurko took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 82nd minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Manuel Fero. Necaxa's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. When Arnulfo Eriz fell near the penalty area in the 83rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Necaxa's protests and gave Arnulfo Eriz a yellow card for diving instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 86th minute, Roque Poz managed to get in a good position for a shot. Necaxa's supporters rose to their feet, but Roque Poz was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Fernando Abeita breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After a rather tough play, Sharks's Gregorio Jordy got a free kick in the 87th minute. In the 89th minute Roque Poz shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fernando Abeita saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 93 played minutes Necaxa got a freekick which was hit by Paulo Cheche. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Paulo Cheche during the 96th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Paulo Cheche hit a great freekick 96 minutes into the match. Leandro Bladi fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 98th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Manuel Fero having to interfere.
