A collision led to Selvas getting a freekick after 18 minutes play. Jose Marz hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Amador Maurin in the 20th minute of play forced Mexico 86's goalkeeper Arnoldo Kepa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 27 minutes of play, Selvas's Rodolfo Emeterio made it 2-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Nicanor Lore to make the kick off.
